When you spend more time in the big bed than the humans, smelling sweet is essential! That’s why, when we were asked by DERMANATURAL Pet Naturals to put their natural dog grooming products to the test we leapt at the chance!
Now, I know most canines of species avoid a bath at all costs! However, Pops and Gerts have accepted that a daily splash in the tub is compulsory living with me!
Admittedly it’s normally just their paws that get a freshen up, unless we’ve endured a particularly muddy adventure!
Luckily (for me!) both my girls hate being dirty so neither of them ever object to a little post-walkies spruce up.
DERMANATURAL Pet Naturals – Natural and Vegetarian Friendly Dog Grooming Products
On first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking that Dermanatural products are a high-end brand designed for humans. (In fact the packaging is a lot more fancy than any shampoo or conditioner I’ve ever brought for myself!)
Packaged in sleek, stylish, recycled aluminium bottles, their range of pet grooming products oozes class.
Dermanatural products are 100% natural, are not tested on animals and are vegetarian friendly to boot. Made in the UK, you can be guaranteed there are no nasties in their products, only plant based ingredients and essential oils that will leave your pup smelling divine.
I won’t use anything but natural products on my girls. Dog’s skin and fur can be sensitive – particularly Gertie’s, as she’s still only 9 months old. Also, I don’t want them exposed to any unnecessary harsh, and potentially harmful, chemicals.
So with all these very honourable ethics, how effective are their pet grooming products?
DERMANATURAL Pet Naturals Oatmeal and Aloe Vera Dog Shampoo
The first thing that hit me about this shampoo was the tantalising smell of Tea Tree. Designed to calm and soothe, the scent is also a good natural repellent against fleas and bugs. Dispensed from a pump-style bottle, it makes it very easy to use.
Because, like all of their products, is it SLS (Sodium Lauryl Suplahte) and chemical free, the shampoo doesn’t foam or produce any unnecessary soap suds. Therefore, rinsing it off is a synch. A little bit goes a long way, and it does a fabulous job of removing dirt and mud. It glides easily through fur and leaves my girls with soft shiny coats.
DERMANATURAL Pet Naturals Oatmeal and Aloe Vera Dog Conditioner
I love this conditioner – it is so versatile! It can either be used as a conditioner after shampooing, or can be used to refresh your dog’s fur in between washes.
Gertie’s fur seems to be growing at a rate of knots!! The fur on her back gets longer by the day, so this leave in conditioner is a great way to tame her locks!
Like the shampoo, it smells super fresh and can be brushed through her fur to give her coat an extra shine. Being half Parson Jack Russell, her fur is quite coarse, and so a little soften here and there is hugely beneficial.
DERMANATURAL Pet Naturals Insect Repellent Soap Bar
I’m a huge fan of soap bars, as opposed to bottled shampoo for dogs. For a start there’s a lot less packaging, so it’s more eco-friendly. Plus, I like the way you can rub the soap straight onto your dog’s fur so there’s no waste.
Fragranced with calming Lavender, Peppermint, Tea Tree and Citronella, the soap naturally repels fleas and has a lovely refreshing zing to it.
As with their bottled shampoo, it is SLS free, so doesn’t form a rich lather. It does however contain Neem Oil, which helps to give fur a lovely glossy finish.
Personally, this was my favourite of the two shampoos we tried. I just love the delicate citric smelling aroma and find a bar of soap so much more economical and easy to use.
DERMANATURAL Pet Naturals Eco Paw and Nose Balm
Made with 100% natural ingredients, this non greasy nose and paw balm is an effective way to relieve dry paws and cracked pads.
Particularly as we head into the Winter months, paws and noses can become painful and sore from the effects of salt and ice on pavements.
This moisturising, soothing balm is the perfect way to alleviate the detrimental effects of the colder weather.
And, the best bit is, it doesn’t leave unsightly greasy paw prints on flooring and furniture either! (Unlike similar products we’ve tried).
Made with Almond Oil, Beeswax and a combination of Lavender and Peppermint essentials oils, this sweet smelling blend leaves paws feeling soft and supple. (Not to mention human hands – my hands felt lovely and rejuvenated after giving Pops and Gertie a pawidcure!)
One word of warning though, because of its moisturising properties, it can make some flooring even more slippery for your dog, so take care on wooden floors and tiled surfaces just after applying it. (Gertie looked like she was on a skating rink!)
