Setting up the Furbo Dog Camera
From the packaging it arrives in, to the simplicity of setting it up, the Furbo Dog Camera really does exude quality, comparative to that of Apple products.
The Furbo is linked by an app on your mobile phone. Even the worst of technophobes would cope with the setup process I can assure you!
Once you’ve plugged in the device, it’ll ask you to download the app and it guides you through the step-by-step instructions, which take about 3 minutes.

The quality of the Furbo Dog Camera is far superior to anything similar I’ve tried.
The camera is superb as it’s HD with three options to select the image quality you desire.
It has a wide screen lens which enables you to see most of the room it’s positioned in. [Also handy for watching your husband trying to sniff out ‘hidden’ chocolate bars in the kitchen cupboards!]
At night it has an infrared setting (which is automatic) so that you can still see your dog in the dark.
This facility would be so useful if your dog sleeps in a different room from you. My two, on the other hand, are firmly under the duvet – wedged like a bolster in between me and Mr. T!
The camera allows you to take still images as well as video. So if you’re particularly entertained by your dog’s antics, you can capture the moment forever!
At the base of the machine is a light that acts as a status indicator, super useful if for any reason you lose WiFi connection.
Dispensing Treats at the Click of a Button
The most unique feature about the Furbo is that you can toss a treat to your canine companion at the click of a button!
It can hold a substantial amount of bite-sized treats, so a plentiful supply, and by simply pressing the biscuit icon on the app, it tosses your furry friend a treat in an instant!
Obviously, just firing treats at your dog can be a little daunting, so it’s important to get them used the Furbo before operating it remotely.
Initially, I positioned the Furbo Dog Camera on the floor so it was at nose level, and let them both have a good sniff! [The lure of the smell of treats instantly captured their attention!]
Once they were familiar with the device, I let them hear the noise of the treat dispenser – it makes quite a whirring sound!
Rather than catapulting a treat from the dispenser straight away, I threw them a treat to start with, then gradually introduced the Furbo in all its glory!
The Furbo allows you to record your own ‘treat toss’ command, or can select the default which is a squeaky toy!
Due to the fact you can communicate with your dog through the Furbo, I would advise that you get your dog accustomed to it whilst you are in the house with them.
I can imagine some dogs being quite freaked out by a talking white ornament, even if it does fire tasty treats!
For practical reasons it needs to be positioned out of reach, otherwise, I’m sure some clever pooches would be able to open the canister and gobble up all the contents! [We all know how cunning our furry friends can be when it comes to food!]
Does the Furbo Dog Camera have a monthly fee?

This is an upgrade to the standard Furbo app and allows you to receive real-time alerts on your phone and create short 15-second video highlights of your dog’s day.
The additional package is £6.99 a month or £69 a year, but in my opinion well worth the investment if you’re absent a lot.
The Furbo Dog Nanny allows you to keep up to date with what’s happening at home with a real time smart alert facility.
It will alert you to smoke and CO2 alarms, detect the sound of glass breaking, and if it senses a person in your property, making it the ultimate safety device for your home as well as your dog.
The additional features of the bark detector will also alert you when your dog is howling, continuously barking, or sounding distressed.
You can even set up a recording schedule if you don’t want to be bombarded with alerts.
When you return home you will be greeted with a doggy diary in video form, showing you all the highlights of your dog’s day via the cloud recording facility.
The Furbo Dog Nanny app has an additional 10 features compared to the standard edition, including being able to pair it with your Alexa device.
