Puddle Duck Cottage and Duckling Cottage are two luxury self catering holiday cottages that, we’re proud to say, have been featured as one of the top places to stay by The Telegraph. Located in the heart of the beautiful Ironbridge Gorge, Shropshire which is home to the World’s first cast iron bridge and birthplace of the industrial revolution, Ironbridge features ten award winning museums including Blists Hill Victorian Town, Enginuity, Jackfield Tile Museum, Tar Tunnel and Coalport China Museum.
Each holiday cottage offers a truly home from home holiday experience, in a tranquil and peaceful location next to the River Severn at Jackfield There are a fabulous choice of pubs and restaurants within a five minute walk, and the cottages are located near to the Wrekin Way footpath, providing our guests with traffic free scenic walks and cycle trails to enjoy during their stay. The picturesque centre of Ironbridge is only one mile away and has a lovely selection of independent shops and excellent places to dine out.
Clean comfy and very well kitted out. We wanted for nothing. Even our beagle Bella had her creature comforts. I would definitely recommend this place. A wonderful location and property for a family getaway. In a beautiful quiet lush enviroment that is close to many attractions. We loved Blists Hill Victorian village. Definitely worth a visit. A lovely 20 minute walk from the cottage with great watering holes on the way such as the Shakespeare Inn and All Legions. Sonia was very accommodating from beginning to end. A wonderful welcome pack was left for us that included chocolate cake, red wine along with the basics like eggs milk and bread etc. Bedding and towels were quality as was everything in the cottage. Debi the housekeeper was so lovely too. Sonia’s husband Darren also has done amazing work around the property. A great team that have made puddle duck cottage a place I’d visit again. Thank you to all Amelia xx
Duckling cottage is lovely, very cosy and nicely furnished and decorated. Sonia had left us a really nice welcome pack with food essentials and treats for us and our doggies. The wood burning stove made our evenings extra cosy. Beds were super-comfortable. Our dogs were safe and secure in a large well fenced outdoor area. The location is superb. Very leafy and pretty, with tons of possibilities for walking and eating out. Nearby Ironbridge is gorgeous, we visited the Tile museum on the way there. Also had a very fun afternoon out at Blist’s Hill Victorian town. All just a short walk away. Would highly recommend and will return for another visit in the future.
We have stayed in some very special properties over the years and this one easily ranks in the top two or three. From the moment we opened the front door we felt welcomed and truly at home. Our every need had been catered for, including a chocolate cake and bottle of wine waiting for us on the dining table. Fruit juice, croissants, bread, butter, jam, and eggs left for breakfast. Spotlessly clean with comfortable furnishings and well equipped we could not fault anything. The location is very quiet with lovely riverside or country walks from the door. The outside spaces are attractive and usable. One of very few holiday cottages that we felt we could live in permanently. Very dog friendly too.
We decided to book this break last minute and it was wonderful. The cottage, the area, the people and the pubs were amazing. I would deffinetely recommend this cottage
We had the best time once again on our second visit to Duckling Cottage. Nothing is too much trouble for Sonia and Darren to make you feel completely welcome and at home and our beagle, Chilli, also has the best holidays here due in no small part to the new toy and jar of treats she finds waiting for her! This time we made use of the gorgeous log burning stove and it was delightful to cosy up in front of it in the evening. The cottage has lovely comfy beds, soft fluffy towels and perfect bath\shower facilities and the kitchen is very well equipped. Local restaurants are often dog friendly and the food is very good as are the Chinese and Indian takeaways nearby. We have totally fallen in love with Shropshire and Puddle duck Cottages and we definitely plan more return visits because we have such a wonderful time that we are loathe to come home at the end of our stay. Many thanks to Sonia and Darren and beautiful Bella beagle. If we could award more than five stars we would!
The cottage had everything and more. So often holiday cottages have little faults but puddleduck had everything that we like eg kingsize bed, good sized children’s room, stove, fabulous location, very quiet, spotlessly clean and walking distance to restaurants. on top of that a very generous welcome pack. We will revisit, this time without grandchildren.
We had high hopes and were not disappointed. From the lovely welcome of cake, wine, milk, eggs, bread to the home décor which I am now copying madly, it was perfect. We had intended to eat out, but we liked the cottage so much that we bought food from the local co-op and ate in. The kitchen was well equipped and things like condiments, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets were all supplied. Sonia had provided loads of local information which was really useful, including some walks. The wi-fi worked well. There was a TV, but we just passed the evening chilling out in front of the wood-burner. We purchased an Ironbridge passport and set out to do as much as we could. Many are within walking distance. Our favourites were Blists Hill and the Jackfield Tile Museum. At Jackfield we managed to buy some of the tiles used in the fireplace in the cottage to use at home. We had to ask though as there is a second shop behind the café. The cottage was very dog friendly, with dog biscuits under the sink, but you would not know that a dog had ever stayed there. A weekend was not long enough to do all the things we wanted to do, and when we do return, I will not look at any other cottages to see if we can do better. I do not think we could. Perhaps next time I will bring the dog!
Cottage gorgeous inside and very homely, had everything you needed and more for us and our dogs . The welcome packs were a lovely touch and neighbours and locals were very friendly and helpful giving us information about the area which is beautiful – so many lovely walks and great places to eat it was a real pleasure to stay there and would definitely recommend to other people and already have.
